There’s a lot written about the so called caring economy. A collaboration between purpose and profit where a business can be successful for itself and the people it exists to serve.
We wanted to share an example of this, through a client of ours who is a counsellor, Debs Wallace at Harmony Counselling. She specialises in helping people who are struggling and one area is bereavement counselling. Last year she became concerned about the lack of bereavement support available for people in Basingstoke. With personal experience herself, she talked the idea through with us about how an event could best work. We’ve worked with Harmony for over three years, helping communicate in a sensitive way their work and how that helps people.
We planned a bereavement support evening that would include. A talk about the different stages of grief, a break-out session in small groups to share and listen to people’s stories and a reflective piece at the end to both remember and to look forward.
Marketing a bereavement support event
Our role was to make the tone of the communications appropriate and then to promote the meeting via media, social channels and networking. The first thing we did was to find a suitable title. ‘Flowerheads and Candles’ encapsulated what we wanted to do and set background for the imagery and the words.
A lot of the work we do is B2B and we enjoy it very much. Sometimes though you get to be involved in something that is very personal. Last night’s bereavement support event was one such example. Deb’s kindness in planning the meeting and reaching out to the community with the offer of help and support. To those who came along. To be in a room of strangers at the beginning, who left, many embracing one another and with a wider support network than when they started. This was an activity that was truly worthwhile. Thank you Debs and Harmony Counselling.
Footnote: There is to be another bereavement support on 12 May 6:30pm -9:00pm.
